I recently moved away from my home town and most of my family. I pass the time by talking to them on the phone so that I am always updated on the latest family gossip. Also, I have started scrap booking my family pictures....this brings back good memories for me and helps me cope with the distance between my family and myself.

I have this same problem when my boyfriend goes out of the country for business (sometimes for a month or two).
Keep an open line of communication, IT'S VERY IMPORTANT!!! I pass the time by going to a book store with a cafe in it, it's a change of scenery and it's relaxing. I'll try to take a walk every day, keep in touch with friends and family to remind myself that I've got some great people in my life and I'm never truly alone. Volunteering is a great productive way to pass time too. I've worked at soup kitchens, meals on wheels, and animal shelters. Whatever skills you may or may not have, people are always happy to have volunteers around! Another good thing is taking a class in something. Look up the name of your city and "adult education" on the internet, and see what your city or county has to offer. Maybe you can learn how to paint, or learn a foreign language!

There are many ways to pass time productively until your loved ones are back. The point is not to be time wasters. Some things you may probably want to do is to email your sincere answers to questions posted here. Another is to pick good books for intellectual development. As the saying goes - Knowledge is power. Or if you love playing musical instruments find one and enjoy playing it. The best instrument is the human voice. Enjoy your days.

most of my loved ones are always around me. but i lost my mother and a 5 week old granddaughter a few years ago.the way i dealt with not having them close by is to relive the times i had with them and show picturesof them to my friends and talk about things they did. i know in my heart that as long as you have them in your mind and heart that they are with you. write them and tell them you love them and just by even a simple letter they are still in your life.
