OK, so Green Day are like the best band ever, but what's the best of the best. Green Day's first album (with Tré Cool), Kerplunk is amazing, when it was made Billie Joe Armstrong was a troubled youth with a punk attitiude, but now he, and the rest of the band, are older and wiser. The American Idiot album focuses more on tackiling major issues like politics and the of something loss in war. But what do you think?

well for starters both are bloody awesome for different reasons as you stated one was in the early days sung wit attitude and now its more about deeper more public issues both were the right albums at the right time they were needed and recorded with the right intensity for the time it was recieved!! long live mighty green day

American Idiot by quite a long way, it's better musically and lyrically all round, yeah it's lost some of the punk attitude but has replaced it with moral outrage that anyone can relate too, american or not.
I've been a fan of Green Day for a decade and they just keep improving. If you like them check out stiff Little Fingers album inflamable material to find their inspiration.

Kerplunk definetly coz it is classically green day and about all stuff teens go through and much more punk rock. American Idiot is also good but much deeper.

Green Day are ok now, more of a punky-goth wannabe lookin U2 if anything, but you can never go past pure teenage punk. the music is roar, the best and only true way.
i just wish kids today could make ORIGINAL music like the bands of that era.

Hmm, i disagree with a lot of the answers on here. I love 21st century breakdown. It's not better than Dookie or Nimrod of course, but i like it a lot better than American Idiot. For me, there are only two songs that I want to skip on the album, but all the other songs i really enjoy listening to.
