predator is the one who kills the prey. usually for eating purposes.

no it is not similar with prey.
a predator eats the prey. the prey is the one eaten. a prey is usaully in a lower for of an animal such as small fishes and stuff like that and predators are the stronger and faster ones who can eat other animals. it is a symbiotic relationship among animals... preys are different from predator.

I agree with the other comments. A predator is a living being that preys on another living source either for life, sustanance or energy. Then again some psuchologicaly disturbed people prey on others becasue they are on the wrong side of the law.
