ok just put the cd in and boot to the cd. Some Windows 98 discs are bootable and others aren't. I have bootable but most people don't that is why you need a startup floppy. Anyways getting back, just let the cd and follow the prompts, it will ask you to delete a partition, so if you are formatting the HD than just delete that partition, You'll have to hit D, then Enter than L to confirm that you want it deleted and then it will automatically format and setup your OS.
Good Luck!

First keep in mind that formatting will erase the entire partition.

When you install an OS, the installation program should give you the option for partitioning and formatting. It's one of the first options that should come up, since it needs to happen before the actual installation starts.

hi there, just boot your laptop from the cd drive, usually the bios is set to this,if not go into your bios settings and change the boot order to cd first, once the laptop boots from the cd then it will start to install ,if your running xp or 2000 it will give the option of formatting when you pick which partition to install it on.
