I am thinking about planting three 8 foot sized Leyland Cypresses. How fast will they grow their first year and thereafter?

Any recommendations?
Any problems with them? I want a fast screen.

I READ OFF OF THE INTERNET THAT THEY WILL AVERAGE 3 FEET A YEAR. IS THIS TRUE FOR THEIR FIRST YEAR?

I wouldn't recommend Leylandis. They grow at such an enormous rate that you will be forever cutting the tops out. We have a plantation of them here the trees are 80+ feet high. I know someone who has to take 8-10 feet off the top of theirs every 3 years.

Conifers take an enormous amount of water so don't expect to grow anything at the base of them if you do put them in.

If I wanted a fast screen I would purchase some logs make a pergola type screen and put an evergren honeysuckle up it. (Lonicera Japonica). I put one in here 3 years ago and its 8 feet high now.

Leylandi make cracking screens but don't forget are now subject to your Local Council byelaws in that they must not cause a nuisance to neighbours by allowing them to grow too high to cast shadow onto neighbours or restrict their natural view. Also the base area must have a good area for spread as placed too close to walls or fences they will die back from the base upwards. Bear in mind also that the weight of snow on higher branches (thin ones) will cause the branches to snap giving your lofty hedge a gaptoothed appearance. Good luck with them.

I'm not pagan; I don't have a religion exactly. But, I basically just celebrate the holidays my family does. April Fools 4th July Halloween Thanksgiving Christmas I also celebrated Pi day at school this year. My family probably celebrates more holidays, I just can't think right now.

Please remember that any rapidly growing tree has a short life expectancy. They are brittle and don't have much chance of long-term survival. A good idea is to alternate Leland and another standard type of evergreen so that by the time the Leland has died, you will have other mature plants in place.

Not much the first year until thier well rooted. then watch out.
personally do not plant them, can cause aggro with neigbours,
loss of light to thier and your property . the root system will foul up your drains especially the pre plastic system, cause damage to the house foundations etc etc,
