Yes i really think so, you may not agree with me, but if u remember that time when he was drop-ed from the team, he wasn't contributing at all with the bat, its not about just one or two series, he wasn't giving his best for more than 2 yrs, i think since he has become the captain, his performance had really decreased.
Everyone started criticising ganguly, nobody liked him as a batsman. It is very important to drop your players when they are not giving their best, they need to go back in domestic cricket, sort their things out and come back to Team India, better, fitter, mentally tough, and that is what had happened with our Sourav Ganguly
Isn't it??
I really feel sorry for Greg chappell, when he is being criticised by media for dropping a player like ganguly, but Indian media and public are so dumb! they don't realise that dropping him is necessary if they want ganguly to give their best, which he is doing right now.
That's other thing, ganguly took a long time to get back in the side, only because he wasn't performing in domestic cricket, he might be thinking that selectors would recall him without any performance in domestic cricket.
Now he have ganguly who is one of best ODI players, playing his best, this has now really increased the chances of India at the world cup.

Yes sending ganguly out was perhaps the best and the boldest decision ever made by the indian cricket board. this has sent the signal that if you want to survive you have to perform. In future nobody should feel his place is for granted. Actually this decision helped Ganguly, this decision was a blessing in disguise.

The "Gang of three" ( More, Chappel & Dravid) ousted him from the Team with a very bad intension to finish the carrer of "great Ganguly". The decision of dropping him was taken at that time based on "revenge" & "betrayal". The "Gang" never thought about the player concern and performance of "Team India".
But, it is 3 Ds (Determination, Devotion & Descipline) made possible the historic "Come back" of Ganguly.

In the later part of the carreer of Ganguly in the Indian Team, his form deteriorated and he was not at all performing well. However, he took his place in the team for granted and did not make any sincere efforts to improve his forms.
Once he was dropped from the side, he realised that unless he performs, he will have no place in the Indian Team. This made him more determined and he tried hard to regain his form in order to come back in the team. His sincere efforts paid good dividend and he could bounce back in the team and perform better.
I personally feel that dropping him from the team has done lot of good for him as this could help his to come out of complacency and from comfort zone and become a good performer.

ganguly is not a new player.
he was good player when he was in his rhythm.
he is an experienced player though he is not in foam but he should be considered as reserved player among the list of 12 players
