Try restarting the computer and make sure mute wasn't hit by accident. If all else fails, I would buy a new sound card. :)

First go back to the control panel and go through all the settings for the sound device and make sure something isn't checked that has muted the sound card. I know that sounds simple, but most sound devices have more than one way to turn off the sound. Also check and make sure that the sound is routed to the internal speakers of the laptop. If the problem isn't in the settings, it's time to check the device itself.
Right click My Computer and go to Properties/Hardware/Device Manager and make sure the sound device shows up in the list. If it's there and it shows to be working properly it's time to check the driver. If you right click the sound device in Device Manager and go to Properties, one of the tabs is the driver tab. On the outside chance that the driver has gotten corrupted, either try to upgrade it from that same driver tab or reload the original driver that came with the laptop (It's either on a system disk that came with the laptop or you might have to go to the manufacturers website and download it).
If the sound device shows to be working correctly and the driver is all right, it's possible that the sound device is a goner. Chances are that's not the case but it is a possibility.

Please check your mute button...I get calls like this everyday and the problem is that its just muted. Other than that, Check to make sure that the hardware is there and functioning properly, in Device Manager..right click MyComputer....Properties>>>Hardware tab>>>>Device Manager>>>>Make sure there isn't anything with a yellow Exclamation point or ?. Then move on to your control panel>>Sounds/audio Settings. Here's where it gets a lil crazy. There are many things to check and uncheck, now first you want to uncheck anything with Digital Sound as almost all laptops don't use it. Also check your default device and make sure its set. There really is too much to go into in regards to this and I need more info to properly diagnose it. Like when did it happen, what program were you using etc.

have you check the sound driver? Here's how to check. Right click My computer, select Properties, click Hardware tab (on top), select Device Manager. Look in the list. If you see a yellow Exclamation or Question mark next to the line saying something about Sound, it's the problem right there. To fix it, right click on that line, select Uninstall, if Windows ask you to restart computer, do so, if not, right click on any line, select Scan for Hwardware change, Windows will detect your soundcard and install the driver back.
Hope this would help

look at the bar near the date, is there a speaker icon ?, if so click on it and adjust sound, if not go to contol panel in START CONTROL PANEL and check there, if all else fails try to re-install sound driver via cd that came with laptop, you can always email dgreen5120@yahoo.co.uk, and I'll try to help, and its free

can you hear sounds if you hook up external speakers or headphones? if not, try reinstalling the drivers. if that doesn't work you could try uninstalling the sound card and reinstalling it.
p.s. have you tried restarting it?

you could go to the device mgr. and see if it recognizes the drivers and if they are corrupted you can try updating or uninstall/reinstall.
