My daughter is 4 months. She was doing the same thing about a month ago. She was sucking like crazy. She was more hungry than anything. I was scared she was going to be a finger sucker but it died down. She hardly puts her fingers in her mouth anymore. My duaghter would rarely take the pacifier. I took her fingers out of her mouth when I was holding her. If she was laying down I just let her suck them. She was actually sucking her knuckles. I got her a toy that she likes to grab and put in her mouth. It is a natural response for them to suck thier fingers at some point. I would not worry, just make sure she is not hungry.

I chose to introduce a pacifier to my children because of a bad experience with finger sucking. Both my sisters were finger suckers, one sucked her thumb and the other sucked her pointer and middle finger. We tried everything to get rid of the thumb sucking. She is 22 and she still sucks her thumb in her sleep sometimes without knowing. My other sister sucked her two fingers till she was about 8 or 9 and it caused some dental problems............... namely buck teeth!!

Get a pacifier. My nephew does the same, and when he starts, we stick a pacifier in his mouth. Besides, it will be much easier to break the pacifier habit than the finger habit, because at least you can take the pacifier away eventually.

My nephew did the same. But i actually read that this is baby's way of calming him or herself down. It's their own kind of pacifier. So i would say it's anything serious. Dont worry about baby getting buck teeth right now. she doesnt have any at this stage anyway ;) She should grow out of if soon.

a pacifier might do the trick...but honestly at 3 months it's not bad to let them suck the fingers. She's just self soothing, babies suck thier thumb interutero, so it's a natural thing for them.

My goodness, leave her alone and let her enjoy sucking her fingers. They are hers!

It's not such a bad habit.

p.s. Shooting heroin and smoking are such a type of habit that you want to help avoid.

for a baby that young it is really normal for her to do that it is a way she comforts herself and her learning to do that is not a bad thing now if she is still doing it after she cuts her first 4 teeth or so you should worry about finding a way to break the habbit

Its because she is teething, if she has lots of saliva, then it is most definitely her teeth. you could get her a teething ring, or give her a pacifier/dummy. Don't worry it is very natural.
