My 11 month old has a fever which fluxuates between 37 - 39.4 celcius... I have given her baby ibprofen and she has been sleeping alot. I have also given her cool / luke warm baths to help bring the temp down. I know that in the past when she has been teething she had a slight fever but it was always accompanied with a sore bottom... She seems fine within herself just really really warm. What could be causing her this hotness.... and am I missing anything I should be doing to keep her cool? Ok I JUST called the doctors to be on the safe side, and she said that it may be a urine infection as it is commonly missed amongst babies... and I now have to catch a urine sample... how do you do that?

If she's generally happy and playing, she might just have a virus - sometimes fever is the only symptom, because that's all that the body needs to do to fight the virus. (Fever is our friend - it's the body's first line of defense.)

If your doctor wants your child to give a urine sample, he needs to supply you with a urine bag - it sticks on like a band-aid and instead of peeing into the diaper, it lands in this bag, which is much like older children and adults peeing into a cup.

I am SO glad you called the doctor's. Call them back and see what they suggest about how to catch a clean urine at home. They can do it at the clinic in different ways but I can't imagine how you'd do a homemade urine catch that will be any good for testing.

When I had to do it to my daughter I had to tape a plastic bag over her privates and to hurry things along I tickled her a little
