The tiger will definetly win, because its simply more powerful, bigger and stronger than the hyena. The hyena always hunt in packs when attacking an animal larger than themselves.
If there was a group of hyenas against a tiger, then it would be a different story. One against one, and the tiger will win.

Ok...assuming they somehow meet since they're in a different continent..I would say the tiger would win. I saw a lion kills a hyena (queen of the pack) easily in a documentary once so seeing the tiger is the biggest of the big cats, I see a no contest. Even if its a pack of hyenas simply because hyenas need a leader to hunt and in the documentary I saw, the pissed-off lion is smart enough to pick out the leader of the pack. The rest of the hyenas then just scattered.
I personally don't want to see it happen though cause Man has done enough damage as it is.

There are striped hyenas in India similar to the spotted ones.
They are no match to a tiger though the forelegs and the jaws of hyenas are more powerful. The legs are meant for digging and the jaws to crunch the bones of a kill.Since their rear half(hind quarters) is very week and they are sluggish even three hyenas will not be a match to a tiger.

I think it would be a bengal tiger, unless the fight is between a bengal tiger cub and an adult spotted hyena!

Since hyenas only travel in packs, I would assume that the Bengal tiger wouldn't win.

1. If the fight is timed (short-duration), the tiger would win, because of its formidable defence and offense package (teeth, claws, agility, weight, energy, etc.).
2. If the fight is very long, the tiger would retreat, because as the basic law goes, CANINES (Hyena, fox, wolf, dog) have more STAMINA as compared to FELINES (Tiger, Lion, Panther, Cat). Felines also tend to spend more energy in less time, thus exhausting them. Hyenas have the strongest molars of the whole animal kingdom permitting them to bite through any bones (imagine 3 hyenas easily disposing a dead elephant's bones in a week). Hyenas are terresterial piranhas, or rather piranhas are aquatic hyenas (mouthful of teeth! yuck)
In nature, it is generally seen many tigers forfeiting their kill to two or sometimes one hyena, as tigers cannot afford wounds. A wounded animal would need to scavenge for meals, which does not happen to be the main business for tigers. Hyenas main business is scavenging.
Moreover, hyenas live in packs, so even if injured, the brethren will save and feed the injured one. Tigers, on the other hand, are solitary creatures (except while mating), so they cannot afford to killer blows or bites.
It is also true that if 2 hyenas (even small hunting dogs or whistling dogs which are so smaller than hyenas) can jointly kill a tiger, provided they choose tiger to be their next meal and persistently chase it.

Tiger - Bigger, Sharper teeth, Stronger, Heavier
Hyena - More speed, High Potential, Sharper claws, Howl for help (while tiger is a lone hunter)
Therefore, Hyena has more chance of winning.
