Hello, flying home from Japan for the summer via Taipei. Arrive at 6pm and leave the next afternoon at 2pm. I want to hit a night market, then just cruise around the city on foot a bit with a few stops for beers along the way. Would like to know what people think is the best plan of action? Should I head into the main train station by bus and then go from there? Are there any night markets close to there? Any information would help. Thanks.

I found an article that you can look at. It talks about Taipei's major night markets, including which MRT stops they are at. If you've been in Taiwan before, you'll know how to get around. If not, I've also included links to a Taipei map and an MRT map.
Have fun.

I just know that the airport is about an hour's drive from Taibei City. It is fairly easy to get on to the planes. As for transportation, taxi's are always around for the ride into the city and back. There are some buses, but unless you know how to use them and such, they can be difficult. Go out and have some fun!

Looks like Ajeet likes Shimen Ding. that whole area turned me off.

The biggest Night market is the Shilin night market. If you prefer strange happenings, try the Snake Alley. My favorite was the Raoho St. night market on the East side of town.

Shimending is okk, though the Shi-lin night market is so much cooler!!! You can get there easily by the MRT(like the subway) and it's um...big. There's lots of food and shopping!

ps: do not buy the cheap fake converse shoes there
