I live in a country (Netherlands) where prostitution is legal. And to my opinion it should stay that way.

First of all it is much better to get a grip on the slavery of women. There are many women worldwide who are forced into prostitution, also in my country. With legalising voluntairy prostitution it is much easier to track down the horrible practises of forced prostitution.

Second, many people (both men and women) in prostitution choose to do this job. I don't see what is wrong about people making these decicions about their own lives and bodies. With prostitution being legal they have to pay tax and they get health insurance just like any of us. They have their own organisations to come up for their rights. They get protected by law against crappy work-circumstances.

Then there are the clients. Of course you always have men who cheat on their wives by going to prositutes. But they would probably also cheat their wives with other women and it's not our responsibility.
There are also many men who go to prostitutes because they have trouble finding a woman, or because they just want sex and no relationship and don't want to go through the dating and stuff. I don't see anything wrong with that! For many men this might even be their only chance on fysical relieve, like handicapped, shy or ugly men for example. I think there would be more rapes if men can't go to prostitutes.
Besides those men, some men just want to pay for instant easy sex. Why not?
I just don't see anything wrong with someone who voluntairy sells his/her sex, and people who buy it. Legalising prostitution makes the circumstances a lot safer for both prositutes and clients.

Prostitution is absolutely very wrong when people are into it against their will. That is prevented much more with legalising normal prostitution. There is much more controll on what is really going on.

No politician would legalize prostitution, it's simply not a smart act for a political personality. Prostitution will always be seen as dirty, unethical, and completely desperate by the majority of society.

Prostitution cannot be completely stopped because there is only so much that can be done about it. But people who are lonely, need a little love and appreciation, it works for them. Personally I think it's trashy, but then by the same token I'm 16 years old. Someone who is 45 and doesn't have a spouse or significant other, might need the companionship, and prostitution offers this for them. It depends on who the person is and the background they come from. Hollywood run-aways for example, once they realize they can't become stars, they have to sell their bodies to survive. In a lot of ways it shows how desperate and unethical our society is.

But as far as prostitution being legal, it will never happen. The West has too much of a sense of humanity and self inflicted pride.

While I personally oppose prostitution. It should be legal. However it should be a state requirement that they are liscensed/certified. They also should be required to submit to weekly health checks. If they refused then they could be arrested.

If the States allowed prostitution, there would be less crime and far less disease spread.

Its the World's oldest profession-it was here at the beginning of time and it will be here at the end of time. Making it illegal will not stop it. May as well legalize it and make it safe.

Pimping should be kept illegal. No one should make a profit off of someone else's body-ie sex. Prostitutes should be independent contractors.

I think it should be legal. Yes it's not right but it's a very personal choice. Most of these women would be ashamed and humiliated because of what they do as would the men who get caught that aren't supposed to be there. Whether it's legal or not people are still going to do it. If it's illegal that is just more money the government fines them and where do these women get the money to pay it back? Prostitution. It's a just one big circle.

I think it should be legal. What goes on between 2 consenting adults, as long as they are generally bringing no harm to anyone, should be permissible. Legal brothels have fewer instances of STDs (sexually transmitted disease) than illegal prostitutes. And I believe there has never been a case of AIDS being transmitted in a legal brothel. Which is the lesser of 2 evils? Prostitution has been around for a long time and won't go away. We should make it legal and regulated to reduce the spread of illnesses.

I live in the netherlands, prostitution is legal here.

I do think prostitution should stay legal. it is afterall the worlds oldest profession, and it would be safer for both the women and the men, if prostitution is legalised, and kept undercontrol by the government.

Legalised prostitutions will keep sollicitation off the streets. It makes it possible to set and enforce health and safety regulations, protecting both the men and women from disease.

i would however like to stress that prostitution should always be volentary.

I hate prostitution, but think it should stay legal. Why? Because criminalizing it doesn't stop it (and generally criminalizes the prostitutes far more than the johns), and without an legal sanction, it can't be monitored. If legalized, the women can get health checks and have legal recourse if someone tries to pimp them out against their will.

legalize it. it is a fairly recent phenomena that it is considered dirty. in all actuality many cultures consider prostitution as a noble profession that provides a service. i believe it was good old ben franklin who said of prostitution "why would you make something that does nothing more than make two people happy illegal?" it is not really degrading to women if they choose to partake of prostitution. that is like saying porno should be illegal. in fact why is it that being paid to have sex on film is ok but in a hotel room it is illegal? if the government would legalize prostitution than many of the problems with it i.e. slave prostitutes would go away. i think of heidi fliec. i know i spelled that wrong but what did she do wrong? she provided a service and her girls made tons and tons of money. they were well taken care of and every one was happy. and i am a very religious person saying this.

I say legal, and I'm with the gentleman who proposed that prostitutes pay taxes. I think they'd be more than happy to, as it legitimizes their profession…plus, if prostitution were to be legalized, areas of activity can be sectioned, monitored and controlled a lot more efficiently, as is the case in places where sex districts are closed to children, and prostitutes and their clients are protected by law.

I agree to legalize the prostitution only if is a individual choice
determined on your civil liberty to decide to live your life
whatever you want.

However I condemn who enforce another person to sell he or her
body in order to make a profit that is criminal..

another issue is the various disease from sexual contact
obviously for who want do sex for payment should be obliged
to have a physical examination in order to prevent the spread
any disease at least one per month!!!
