Unemployment is caused by a slow down of economic activity. It is called the business cycle by economist and recessions by people. The study of the causes and what to do about it is called macro economics. After a hundred years of looking for a solution economists have not found one, so I doubt the the answer can be found here.

One current trend that I have been thinking about, which will effect US employments rates soon is the mandatory raise of minimum wages.
I hear so much about "living wages", but what I see in my community are young people struggling to find their first jobs and unable to get into the market. Since this is a university town we are chock full of young people looking for jobs. Raising minimum wage, in my experience, robs many young people of the experience they need to get started. There are fewer jobs and they are less rewarding. Young people are more likely then to feel stuck in their first jobs, because there are fewer jobs available. When I first went to work at a "real" job in 1973, the minimum was raised. Whoopee!
I found a good under the table job.

HAVING NO PROSPECTS OF A JOB=UNEMPLOYMENT. COMPANIES HIRING TOO MANY PEOPLE FOR ONE POSITION=LAYOFFS=UNEMPLOYMENT. LARGER COMPANIES COULD INVEST IN ON-SITE DAYCARE FACILITIES AND HIRE EMPLOYEES FAMILIES,FRIENDS OR EVEN ASSOCIATES TO OPERATE THEM. EMPLOYEES COULD RECEIVE DISCOUNTED RATES FOR THAT DAYCARE AND VOLUNTEER ON THEIR DAYS OFF TO CUT DOWN COSTS OF OPERATING IT. THAT SHOULD AID IN MEDICAL BENEFITS,ALSO. AND SHOULD HELP CUT DOWN ON SICK DAYS AND LEAVES OF ABSENCES BECAUSE THEIR KIDS ARE SICK WITH NO ONE TO CARE FOR THEM SO THAT EMPLOYEE HAS TO MISS WORK. WHEREAS IF THE DAYCARE WAS ON SITE IT WOULD BE LIKE BRINGING YOUR CHILD TO WORK. YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO MONITOR THEM ON YOUR BREAKS/LUNCH AND STILL FOCUS ON WORK. IF I OWNED A BUSINESS, I WOULD LOOK INTO THIS MORE. IT WOULD DEFINITELY HELP SOMEONE LIKE ME WHO HAS THREE SMALL KIDS.
