John Henry. Bar None! At least he's my hero. For crying outloud he beat a jackhammer proving man is better than machine. How inspiring!

My vote is for Johnny Appleseed (John Chapman). Also Paul Bunyan, Daniel Boone, Davey Crocket, John Henry, Casey Jones, the rest of them that come to mind seem to be great leaders and not exactly "folk heros."

Willie Nelson..... If I had to explain him, you wouldn't understand, lol. The man is a country icon. He has written as many hit songs for other people as he's sang himself. It's like asking why is John Wayne so revered, because he symbolizes a way of life, a attitude, and he's just a dang good singer and songwriter. Willie is a legend, and to be honest he needs no explanation, he's just Willie, and we love the guy, and always will. Hope that helped ya some, take care, and may God Bless.

Johnny Appleseed? Paul Bunyan? Benjamin Franklin? John Henry?

Prince?

No, I think it's the serial killer in Natural Born Killers, as played by Woody Harrelson.

Either that, or it's Laura, the babe from Tombraider.

Oh oh oh! Nah, nix all of the above. It's Elvis.

It would either be Davy Crockett or Daniel Boone. Both had a television series made for them in the 50's and 60's. I remember the one for Daniel Boone quite well.

I like John Henry, James Bowie and David Crockett, but I suppose I'm not really qualified to answer as I'm not American.
