Ever since I had my last child some twenty years ago I have had bowel problems but they are getting more frequent. I can go without using my bowel for three months in that time i look like I'm 9 months pregnant when the attack happens that what i call it because you don't know when it going to I get cold sweats and abdominal pain. I usually have between 10 - 30 min to find a toilet after that i am there usually for 8 hours plus or until my system empties all the waste and you really don't want to be around.
This may seem funny to some people but i assure you I would not wish this on anyone. Is there anyone out there that goes through the same thing. I have had test done and seen doctors but they all seem to have different ideas and most times don't believe me. I would really like some feed back on this.

It sounds to me as if you have megacolon and/or megarectum. I suggest that you read the link below and discuss the symptoms with a specialist:

http://www.medscape.com/medline/abstract/16836953?queryText=megacolon

In the link I would not suggest having a oral colonic lavage with polyethylene glycol as this involves having a large amount of laxative poured down a nasalgastric tube. I did a study and Movicol (macrogol 3350) proved to be just as effective (it just involves drinking a few reconstituted sachets for about a week) and then using lactulose and senna as prophylaxis (see source below).

Megacolon and/or megarectum normally occur in paediatric patients but is has been known to affect adults also.

Best of luck.

Each night before going to bed take a natural herb called cascara sagrada and senna , this will teach your system to move everything through within eight to twelve hours, and it may take some time to get it all trained, always drink lots of water and eat things easy to digest like oatmeal, applesauce, steamed vegetables and leave all of the fast foods alone, all fried food alone and try to stay away from bread, cheeses, and meats. you can retrain your system slowly so dont try to do it all over night, you may have damaged your colon during the birth and since the body is amazing you may be able to retrain the muscles if you give your body what it needs, I would also add super blue green alge to the daily routine, and think about having one of those scopes done to see if there is a twist or knot causing the problem, this can kill you and cause impactions that will ruin you for good, please at least, at the very least take the cascara sagrada and senna with lots of water.

Friend,I have to say that I know how you feel..too a point! I have had the same problem for the past 5 years. But unlike you,I never have a b/m without help of some sort. What I mean is,I have to take laxatives, and lots of them.I can't take a regular dose like it says on the directions,I have to take 3 or4 times the regular amount prescribed, and then if I'm lucky I'll go.But it is never a good cleansing,it is just enough to give me a minimum of relief.I have tried everything.I have ordered everything they advertise on the T.V.,until recently!!!! My friend gave me a prescribed Laxative named MARI LAX!!! It helped me to go,and without all the straining and moaning and pain, and I didn't have to sit on the potty for hours either.Granted,it wasn't as wonderful experience for my family, because of the smell. But now I can go regular and it is not the kind of medication that you can become dependent on.It just helps you to go,and to learn to use you rectum muscles again etc.Take my advice, ask you Doctor if you need to have your Colon cleansed,if he says that's not an option, then ask him/her for a prescription for the Mari lax,and I guarantee you will feel so much better and your whole attitude will change.Being constipated is a terrible feeling, believe me I know from my own personal experience.I hope everything comes out alright for you!(smile)Good Luck and God Bless You!!!

Have you gone to a specialist? Keep going to the doctors and make yourself annoying with it... You sound like you're lucky to not have torn something... Did you have any kind of cutting/excessive tearing when you had the baby... Something that would have required stitches. maybe nerves were torn that control your ability to have a bowel movement...

My best friend has this problem as well, her stomach protruds and when she finally goes, usually with the help of laxatives, the smell is horrendous. Please see a doctor because she won't. It's not normal.

I've never come across anyone with a similar problem, but this could become serious if not treated properly.

See a gastroinerologist immediately. It is not normal and not healthy.
