I am a completely biased Twins fan curious to see what the rest of the baseball world thinks of Joe Mauer. I think he is one of the best catchers to come along ever, but like I said, I am totally biased. He hits like a 15 year veteran and plays great defense. Plus he is a quality human being, nice to all the fans! What are your thoughts on the young phenom... outside of the Twin cities?

I may be a bit biased too, but he has a sweet swing and i haven't seen a better hitter in MN since Molitor played there. If he stays healthy he is definitely gonna be a hall of famer, but it is way too early to predict that. He is not the kinda guy who will stop working hard now that he is RICH, so I think he'll continue to dominate pitchers and start the next 10 all-star games!

Joe Mauer is a breath of fresh air in a day of big contracts and big egos. Mauer is a Minnesota kid born and raised. He grew up idolizing the Twins and wanting to be one and is living out his dream. He signed on for a huge hometown discount with the Twins for four years at $33 million.

Considering he is still developing his power stroke and is only getting better it was a great deal for both sides. Mauer brings a whole new light to the catcher position. There have been plenty of catchers who could play great defense and nail runners trying to nab that extra base (ie: Pudge Rodriguez) and there have been plenty of catchers who have a sweet stroke and can drive the ball (ie: Mike Piazza) but very few have been able to combine the two the way Mauer has and to top it all off, he offers some serious speed on the base paths. (13 SB in '05 and 8 in '06) Not to shabby for a guy who blew out his knee in his first season in the bigs.

Mauer has avoided injury since and remained one of the most consistent forces in the Twins lineup. I think he is easily the best catcher of the new wave (ie: McCann, Martinez, Martin, etc....) and should remain a consumate All-Star at the position for years to come.

I am totally not a fan of the Twins, but I have had my eye on Mauer for a long time. Definately one the best catchers to come around in a long time, I wouldn't go as far as to say "ever", but the dude can absolutely rake. Definately one of my favorite players in the league.

Don't know much about him as a person but he's a good young catcher that knows how to hit. I mean, for a catcher to win the batting title. I'd say he's up in the top 1 or 2 catchers, him and Victor Martinez, I like them both.

DL is the disabled record. It opens up a niche on the 25 guy roster which will call up a guy from the minors to take his spot. he's eligible to come back off 15 days after he went on. i imagine Mauer is one among the acceptable catcher interior the game at present. he's already were given a batting identify and the means will are available in time. he's were given the makings of a gold glover in the back of the plate in the journey that they save him there. there has been communicate of transferring him to a special position interior the previous to attempt to save him healthful and not at all tire him out on the top of the year. The Twins are a reliable crew this year, yet they omit Liriano interior the rotation. without him i imagine they're going to fall short of the playoffs this season.

He is a very good player, but I don't think he is one of the best pitchers to come along ever. I think the media tried to put that label on him when he was coming up. He injures too easily and I don't know long term he will be viewed as better than Pudge or Piazza.
