I disagree that the weather in San Diego is better than Hawaii. I was born and raised in Hawaii and moved to San Diego after college, and think that it gets too cold here during the winter. Sure, there's less rain and humidity, but if you've lived in Hawaii most your life, chances are you're used to it.
Anyway, in general, San Diego is fantastic. I've also lived in the Bay Area (San Jose-Santa Clara area), and it's much warmer in SD than it is in SJ! San Diego is gorgeous, and very close to the beaches. You gotta love that the Pacific Ocean is always a short drive away when you're missing home.
San Diegans are very laid back. It's a very family friendly atmosphere. Everyone dresses pretty casual, unlike L.A. There are lots of fantastic restaurants here, the commute's not too horrific (better than L.A., about the same as S.J. for me), and lots to see and do (zoo, Wild Animal Park, SeaWorld, Legoland, and Balboa Park). If you get homesick, there are several L&L's here, two Da Kine's (Pacific Beach and Mira Mesa), and you can get your Hawaiian Sun from Ranch 99 in Clairemont Mesa or even some of the supermarkets in Mira Mesa.
SDSU - the camps - is nice. LOTS of walking. It sometimes seems to me like the campus is all uphill. I don't go to school there but do use the library, so unfortunately I can't tell you anything about their student life.
Anyway - congrats on getting accepted to SDSU! I hope you enjoy living in San Diego, I know I love it. =)

You'll find this blasphemous, but San Diego has better weather than Hawaii. Mainly because there's no heavy humidity. Hawaii's beaches are better though.
City's ok. Gorgeous, but kind of boring. Since Oahu is your biggest city, you may think it's not that bad. Compared to SF, it's almost like a suburb though.
People are nice and laid back. Some areas are very upscale, but still, people tend to be laid back. The real snobs flock to LA. SD is very much a beach city, with the laid back attitude for the most part.

Pretty laid back. The beaches are extremely crowded. The coldest it gets in the winter is mid 50's. It rains a lot less in San Diego, just a couple inches all year, and that comes only in the winter. It is a nice dry heat with no humidity.
Below is a link to a site that has information on the beaches.
