...was listening to the radio this morning (Feb 23), and was told it was not the skills or determination that got the lasses the equal bite, but - er...their 'aesthetic qualities'.
And here's me thinking the grunt 'n' groan eastern European lasses, Spaniards, as well as the Americans had put in enough effort - not 'alf - to wake up the dusty and rusty officials in SW19.
Nope...it seems the way they roll their derriers and shine their thighs (as well as making certain noises) still has the old dears scratching their midriffs...and they're being paid for it this time. Are there women out there who have seen the new award the same way?

I watch men games for the quality of the games. i watch women games only when sharapova or another hottie is on the court and i dont watch them looking for a great game. Female tennis is like you are watching tennis in slow motion, Everyone should be paid according to 3 standards.
1) Time of work: Men play longer games.
2) Quality of work: Men play better tennis.
3) Revenues bring to the company: Men bring more audience to a tournament.

And whoever says women bring the same money then why men play the final always on sunday on the best schedule.

So make your conclussions.

As a female person, I DO NOT think that the women should get as much as the men, because of the match length / 3 sets - 5 sets thing. How about a per set weighting?

Women should play best of 5 sets like the men then?! In a way they are now getting paid better than the men.

the whole point of paying equal prize money is recognising that women's tennis is drawing the same amount of attention and fans as men's tennis. it's not true that men's tennis draws more viewers. to be fair, both have their supporters - women's game allows more rallies and groundstrokes, while the men's game is faster and points are usually won quicker too.

can we equate the amount of work done with the money earned? two singers may stage a concert, but the one who is more established and famous will earn more. so by paying equal prize money, they are recognising that women's tennis's contributions is no less than men's tennis. and that's the way the market works.

I agree with equal reward for equal effort. If women are capable of providing the same amount of work then they are entitled to equal pay. When the ladies play their matches over best of three sets then they will be entitled to the same prize money.

The main problem I have with giving them equal pay is that the women's matches aren't as long or grueling. If they paid them equal stakes for equal play, I'd have no issue with them getting the same money; but like firemen and baseball players, until they can acheive the same goals physically, you can't reward inferior behavior.

We only watch the womens matches with honeys - lets be honest the quality of games isn't so good. More people watch the mens game so they should get more - that's where the prize money comes from afterall.

when women play as many sets as men, they should receive equal payment. However, at the Grandslams, men deserve more money, because they play more sets.
Equal pay for Equal play

i might choose taking it from the Scriptures. The Double Edged Sword. It penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the concepts and attitudes of the middle. no longer something in all creation is hidden from Him. each little thing is uncovered and laid bare earlier the eyes of him to whom we could provide account.
