Goofy is a dog, just like Pluto, only he hasn’t been abused by Mickey and Minnie and forced to walk around naked on a leash in public and sleep outdoors, the way Pluto has.

Goofy is a dog. His name started out as "Dippy Dawg". In a 1938 book his name was changed to "Dippy the Goof". In 1939 he became "Goofy" for a cartoon called "Goofy and Wilbur"
