Correction, naysayers - from tha Appaloosa Horse Club -
"The Palouse region of the Northwest is an appropriate home for the [ApHC headquarters]; the Appaloosa’s historic background is linked to the region, and the word “Appaloosa” evolved from the words 'A Palouse Horse'." The moral of the story is, check your sources ladies - not all is as it seems.

The Palouse horse came from the region of Palouse near the Washiongton/Idaho border. Well, that is where they bacame the Palouse horse, at least :) As with all North American horses, they were imported, but it was the Nez Perce Indains in the Palouse region that developed the breed, and they did not just breed for colour as the ApHC so shamefully does now, it is estimated that approximately 10% of the Nez Perce horses were spotted, but undoubtedly they were all of similar lineage. They were breeding for brains and ability, sadly a lost art. The Nez Perce were historically fishermen, and roamed little, but with the introduction of horses into their lives, they became excellent horsemen, hunters and caraftsmen. And then the white men came and spoiled the party and ruined the breed. Shame, shame.
