What is an informal amendment to the Constitution?

This is when congress writes a law that interprets the constitution, or when the supreme court makes a ruling that acts as if it were....such as roe vs wade.

In roe v wade, the supreme court "gave women the constitutional right to abortion" even though the actual right is not listed in the constitution itself.

recently, the past congress tried a lot of this...one could consider the "defense of families" act an informal amendment, because it defines a part of the constitution that concerns marriage...

the constitution says that marriages and other documents held true in one state msut be held in another...this would have allowed homosexual couples to marry in vermont, then go back home and even though their state does not allow homosexual marriage, they'd be required by the constitution to uphold it.

The D.F.A. meant to eliminate that possibility by "defining" marriage.

But in a broader sense, any act of congress is an "informal amendment"

I have read the Constitution several times and never heard such a term. Sounds like a term a Democrat came up with.

This is what Clinton came up with when he committed the felony of perjury and called it neither a high crime nor a misdemeanor. It is just a joke at the expense of the founding fathers....

This sounds as if it's a question on a test for some class that you're taking. If so, then you should have the answer in your notes or your book. I've never heard of this term.
