This is truly an subjective thing. In a way, it was worse. Hard labor ******* hurts. The good news is that part is usually brief. I was in labor for 29 hrs. but I spent 10 of those eating an omlette and shopping. If you are scared, keep your options open. You can deliver safely with drugs. Daisy had an APGAR of 9 and I had morphine, fentanel, and two epidurals. You have to make your own call on pain management. Don't be swayed by anyone elses opinion.

The pain of labour is like hell on earth. My epidural wore off about 2 hours before starting to push. It feels taking the biggest watermelon you have ever seen and trying to push it out of your rectum. My midwives told me that childbirth is an anal experience, and they were right. I was pushing for over an hour and finally had to be cut. But, the worst was not over.....

After the baby and placenta were out and I was stiched up the pain was still unbearable. I went home from the hospital 11 hours after giving birth. The first 2 weeks home all I did was cry from the pain. It hurt to stand, to lay down, to walk and most of all to sit. I sat on pillows upon pillows on top of the couch cushions and all I could do was cry and wish I could off the lower half of my body.

At the moment, I am 7 1/2 weeks pregnant with my second child (I had my son in February 2006). The second thing I said to my husband after I did the test was "Oh my god, I'm going to have to go through the pain again."

I hear some people forget the pain of having a baby, but I haven't. I absolutely love my son, and I love being pregnant again...but I am scared to death of the pain thats coming in October. Because I know how bad it can be.

I walked a lot when I was PG with my 1st child. I was young and in great shape. My labor was only 4 hours, pushed only twice and she was born. The contractions was not bad at all.
On the other hand with my 2nd child, I was not walking as much and got much bigger during the 2nd pregnancy. My labor was only 4 1/2 hours and pushed for 45 minutes. It did hurt, felt like really bad Menstral Cramps.
But once I held my son, I forgot all about the pain.

I had both my children natural, no meds.

The beauty of labour is, that as soon as the baby is out, the pain stops.
It hurts, of course it hurts, but somehow it is a managable kind of pain, when it becomes unbearable that is when it is nearing the end. Well that is how I always found it.
I have been lucky and had 5 straightforward unmedicated labours, I am sure for those that have had to have emergency c-sections the answer will be much different.
Your experience will be unique to you, dependant on your level of pain tolerance, the position you choose, your caregivers, your labour partner, the position of the baby etc etc etc
Go in with an open mind, a positive attitude, and you will be fine.
Good Luck!

Yes it hurts worse than anything except a csec I would go with the epidural I know it sounds scary to get a cathider in your spine but compared to the labor pains you will be greatful for that small pain, it is worth it. I was able to sleep through the worst part of my labor. I wish you a happy healthy baby

It is different for everybody because every body is different.

You can tackle some of the fears associated with it by learning all you can about it. You can prepare for it by taking classes & doing certain exercises/stretching to prevent tearings.

But that's no guarantee that all will go according to plan.

p.s. I personally would choose natural childbirth labor anyday than go through 41 weeks of pregnancy. And only because I know what kind of pregnancies and labors I get.

I suppose it can be if something goes wrong or you don't have an epidural. I have had two children. The first went by without a hitch. The second time, the epidural didn't take. They did it again and hit spinal fluid. It made me jump, but worse than that I had a migraine throughout the whole birthing process. The bottom line is that seeing your child makes it all worth it and you don't even notice the pain anymore!

Well, the contractions that you feel before the epidural are horrible. I barely remember them, but they gave me the shakes and I wanted that epidural drip SO bad. Once I got it, it was smooth sailing from then on out. All I felt when it was time to push was ALOT of pressure. No pain at all. And when she finally came out, I was surprised at how little it hurt. But that is WITH an epidural. I really wouldn't be able to tell you how it feels without it.

i think it depends on the person in labor there state of mind and how you think about the pain . i enjoyed labor and kept reminding myself not to think of the pain i was in but about what i would get at the end a beautifully baby and this helped and like i said it was enjoyable

depends on your strength. It can be a exhausting experienc but it is all worth it once those liitle people come out and placed in your arms. Proud mom of 1 c-section and two natural births. Good Luck
