I have 4 denison barbs (among other fish) in a 55 gal tank that is 4 ft long by 1 ft. I'm entertaining the idea of adding 2 pictus catfish into the mix. Are these fish comptaible? Any knowledge on the topic is greatly appreciated...

The pictus will mind to his own and should not be a threat to you denison. If the Denisons aren't too aggressive they should mind to their own as well.

I'm jealous!!! I would love a school of Denisons!

Aside from the size issue, I'm curious about the temperature you are (or would be) keeping your fish at. Pictus is a tropical fish and should be kept at 75-82, but Denisons are coolwater and should be in water 60-77, so there's not a lot of overlap. I've seen them at lower temps with Boesemanii rainbows, and that made for a very colorful tank! From what I've heard, Denisons are very sensitive to changes in their water temperature.

I see your concern, not wanting to lose a single denison barb. Those little buggers are expensive. I personally wouldn't risk it if the barbs are small, as pictus cats get 10" and often are fed live food as part of their diet.
