Blue October was formed in 1996 by lead singer/songwriter/guitarist Justin Furstenfeld, his brother, drummer Jeremy, multi-instrumentalist Ryan Delahoussaye, later joined by guitarist/vocalist CB Hudson and bassist Matt Noveskey. The name reportedly was inspired by Justin's brief stint in a hospital in October.[1] Managed by Justin and Jeremy's parents under the name "RoDan Entertainment", Blue October released their first album, The Answers, in 1998, a well-received debut which sold over 5,000 copies in Houston alone.[2] Due to a fan-based connection with the local ABC network television affiliate, Blue October was able to schedule an early-morning news performance — the band's first live television performance.

Formed in Houston in 1996, Blue October--featuring brothers Justin and Jeremy Furstenfeld (drums), Ryan Delahoussaye (violin/mandolin/keys), CB Hudson III (guitar) and Matt Noveskey (bass)--made its recorded debut on the 1998 indie release "The Answers." The group subsequently cut a deal with Universal Records and offered up its inaugural major-label effort, "Consent to Treatment," in 2000.
When "Consent to Treatment" failed to break the band on a large scale, Universal dropped the group. The quintet subsequently signed with indie label Brando Records and issued 2003's "History for Sale." The album featured the cut "Calling You," which earned some buzz when it was included on the "American Wedding" soundtrack.
The band's increased visibility brought Universal back to the table, and the group re-signed with the label, which issued "Foiled" in April of this year. The disc spawned the hit single "Hate Me," which is streaming at the group's MySpace page.
Earlier this month, Blue October issued via Apple's iTunes Music Store an exclusive EP dubbed "Foiled Again," which features live acoustic versions of the cuts "Hate Me," "Into the Ocean" and "Razorblade." The group also recently unveiled the video for "Into the Ocean," which is posted at the band's MySpace page.
