My brother was recently murdered and we have all of his personal belongings. We found that he had a Yahoo Mail account and we'd like to get into the mail to see if there may be anything of use to us as a family. However we don't know what the protocol is, do we request to Yahoo? Or is there a type of ...master passcode a sort of one size fits all in the...'password'..'techie' world?

If You manage to contact Yahoo (but have no clue how).

Yes such masterpasswords exist. Admins can access accounts.
The feature can be selected when setting up e-mail services.
But do they/Yahoo want too? To provide it costs $.

Provided You can prove that You are the owner now. They should be able to grant access, when they chose to implemet the feature.

You can also look for clues on brothers PC. Places like browser cache, passwords managers ( if not also protected ). I store mine password in a mail :-) Else try to recruit the police for getting acces/passwords? They might be interested too.

p. s. sorry to hear the question.
