vanity fair and cosmopolitan mags even featured about the transition of the dressing culture of the people from middle east, like women from dubai and qatar...but can western people judge their women's right to choose what dresses should cover their bodies a repression of rights? no way, on what standard do westerners based their assumption and say that people of middle east are dressed the wrong way? there's no way to tell...because culture are unique and especially in its own way...and if they try to change this then that's invasion of one's culture and heritage - no culture on earth will tolerate this.

What is UR opinion about Islamic female dressing?
I say if that's what a woman wants to wear then she should go for it - so long as they are CHEAP and BIODEGRADEABLE. There is a real practical dimension here: wearing this thing (burka) saves on the wear and tear on a woman's REAL clothes - the ones that cost REAL money. It's kinda like wearing a pinafore or apron...heck, you don't even need a table napkin anymore! Very environmentally conscious - great idea! I'll think I'll run out and buy one tomorrow.

Lot of female muslim follow the middle eastern dressing (cover up their faces and hands). I think it is unnecessary. Some Muslim friends of mine said that the middle eastern do that because of the wind, sand storm etc. Not due to religion. I think some are just over-doing. But why? Don't they feel hot and sweaty inside esp living in a tropical country that is hot all year round? i wonder...

I love traditional Muslim dress mainly because I'm a Muslim and also because I am fearful of ALLAH so much that I am willing to cover everything except my eyes in order to get good credit and please ALLAH and my husband as well. Right now I just wear hijab(head scarf) but also plan on buying abaya and niqab as soon as I get enough money. There is a strong Hadith by Prophet Muhammed(PBUH*) that says all believing Muslim women and girls are to cover everything except the eyes and it is also backed up in the Qur'an. I plan on wearing normal western clothing under the abaya because my jeans show my figure a bit. Plus I feel more free and liberated in traditional dress than in western clothing. Too many men looking at me makes me nervous.

We have Catholic nuns who are dressed in about the same life-chastising way. To me they look like dreadful and very dangerous spooks. Oftenmost their hard and bloodless faces miss the glow of healthy life. I often wonder whether God really may have wanted that they should walk the streets in such a sad funerary attire.
For me the woman should be a fiercy glowing and open presence, the utmost necessary and charming companion to man, to be in the World in the feastly way that God according to Mother Nature really seems to have wanted her to.

Islam has defined a dress code both for men & women. While men are required to cover their bodies from naval to thighs at ALL times, women are required to cover their entire bodies except for face, palms & feet. If anyone feels this dress code is not right, I request them to do the following: MEN: Start staring at the breasts of your 'clothed' sisters at home whenever they come in front of you. See how they react. If they don't start covering their bodies with extra dupattas in your presence, i'm willing to accept that muslim women overdress. WOMEN: Stop wearing bras, wear a tight t-shirt, come out when your brothers' or fathers' friends are visiting & jump around in front of them like a normal teenager. If you don't get slapped & severely scolded for your indecency & shameless behaviour, i'm again willing to concede that muslim women overdress. In both the instances, women were 'properly' dressed with no skin showing. Yet, the reaction was bizzare from a non-muslims point of view. My simple question to burqa haters is, if dupatta over a perfectly nice kurta is acceptable & a pallu over a full blouse acceptable, then why not a burqa over a perfect dress acceptable? Stop your mothers & sisters from wearing a dupatta & pallu, maybe then you can think of convincing the muslim women of discarding the burqa, too!!

My opinion of islamic female dress is that it is a tool men have created to keep women trapped. Under the guise of religion, muslim men have trampled the rights of women and treat them more like slaves.Muslim women dress in a prison of fabric.

My opinion would be of no relevance to people who wish to dress as Islamic Women do, and therefore, I give you none. I have considered your question though and wonder if an Islamic Opinion about how we do things here in America with regards to womens apparel would have relevance to us. I think not.
Respectfully,

If you mean those long black robes I once saw on TV, I have to tell you I hate the so called Islam dress code. Chinese women stoped wearing robes nearly 80 yrs ago, why arabic women still wear that? That's crazy. It makes sick and angry!! Dam.
