Not all people only snore when they are asleep - seriously obese people sometimes make snoring noises when awake and resting. It's all to do with the airways relaxing (or being obstructed).

It comes from a subconscious desire to keep your partner awake. :o)
Seriously, the snoring sound comes when you try to suck air in through both your nose and mouth at the same time. I can only assume that a muscle relaxes in sleep which causes this.
Although if you lay on your side you are much less likely to snore.

Snoring may be due to hereditary reasons .Leading an active lifestyle , sleeping on your side, avoiding alcohol or eating heavy meals at least 4 hours before sleeping will help . More remedies
