Ok, my situation was the same. I wanted to get a legit copy of XP Pro so i could do the updates. Most games require the new service packs as well as a good graphics card. if you have a nice system, you may as well get a legit copy so you can keep everything updated and protected. But i did not want to pay the price of $200 or more. So after research, I got a legit copy for around $100...how? You buy only the CD...no manual, no box...suprising how the packaging can cost so much eh? if you know O/S, you don't need the manual or the box. all you need is the product key and the CD! SO i would get a legit version of XP Home or Pro. Now how do you get this? go to http://www.bizrate.com and search for "XP" or "Windows XP"...search by price and there you go! I got mine this way and used it. had no problems with it...Good luck! If you are spending good money on good harware, why not drop another $100 and make it legit. easier and less of a headache. Take care and happy gaming!

Take a look at the link below! :) Good deal here.

i would say what kinda computer is it first, is it new or old. if its old spend the money on a new system it would be a waste of time upgrading the old system for games. As for new os just buy a new system, u cant really play any good games by upgrading your os, u must upgrade hardware to, so buy a new system if thats the case, and for the movies on your harddrive u can either add the harddrive to the new comp or copy your important files to a usb flash drive hope this helps

Yes, because all the windows updates will only be available if you are using a genuine copy of windows. Which will enable your games to run better and your internet surfing safer.

it would be better if you got a legit version,
not only can you then get all the updates and all you can also download the latest versions of IE, media player as soon as they come out.
and for gaming make sure you get a good graphics card a 7900 512 MB should do.

cheers !

you want the product restore CD/DVD or a residing house windows Setup CD. No, do not attempt to receive one--those are all too regularly corrupted with who's commonplace with what. those will be aquired legally from the mfr.

Your computer won't work at all without an O/S
