Good question. The generally accepted theory for the formation of the Solar System also explains the formation of the Earth. Here is a condensed version:

About 5 billion years ago, a huge cloud of gas began to collapse. It had a bit of angular momentum, so it collapsed into a spinning disk. At the centre was the forming Sun, onto which matter from the disk slowly accumulated. Within the disk, however, dust and small rocks started to form. These collided and combined to form the planets. The Sun then began nuclear fusion, and hence began to shine. Most of the left-over materials in the disk were blown away, although a large amount accumulated on the Gas Giants (particularly on Jupiter). Thus the planets were formed in orbit around the Sun.

This formation model is generally accepted for three reasons: First, it explains why the planets orbit the Sun in the same direction and in a plane; Second, we understand the physical processes involved and it makes sense; Third, we can see such disks around nearby young stars.

I've linked a few such images that you might find interesting.

ACCORDING TO THE UPANISHADS

1. There was nothing whatsoever here in the beginning. By death indeed was this covered, or by hunger, for hunger is death. He created the mind, thinking 'let me have a self' (mind). Then he moved about, worshiping. From him, thus worshiping, water was produced. . . .
2 . . . .. That which was the froth of the water became solidified; that became the earth. On it he [i.e., death] rested. From him thus rested and heated (from the practice of austerity) his essence of brightness came forth (as) fire.
3. He divided himself threefold (fire is one-third), the sun one-third and the air one-third. He also is life [lit., breath] divided threefold, . . . (Brihad-aranyaka Upanishad, 1, 2, 1-3.)

1. The Sun is Brahman-this is the teaching. An explanation .thereof (is this). In the beginning this (world) was non-existent. It became existent. It grew. It turned into an egg. It lay for the period of a year. It burst open. Then came out of the eggshell, two parts, one of silver, the other of gold.
That which was of silver is this earth; that which was of gold is the sky. What was the outer membrane is the mountains; that which was the inner membrane is the mist with the clouds. What were the
veins were the rivers. What was the fluid within is the ocean.

The Earth formed when the initial molten lava mass cooled and formed a solid outer crust. The Earth’s approximation to the Sun and ability to absorb its solar energy allowed for photosynthesis to occur. This began the accumulation and storage of oxygen in the Earth’s atmosphere and the development of what we now know as the ozone layer. Early eukaryotic life on Earth soon followed.

With the complete formation of the ozone layer, which blocked all harmful ultraviolet radiation from the Sun, multicellular life began to slowly populate the planet. Following several major catastrophic life extinctions, mankind’s first ancestors slowly began to evolve, beginning the early stages of what has lead to the world as we know it today

yes there are the theories of the gods, i don't believe them. i believe in the big bang, if has a lot of scientific research to back it up. if you search on google or yahoo for big bang you will be satisfied. i think i am pretty certain i know how it was created( it would take too long to explain) but i am trying to figure out how the stuff contained within the "ball" that exploded was created.

The word 'universe' preaches for itself. Uni means single and verse means a spoken sentence. So the universe is literally a 'single spoken sentence'. God said 'Let there be . . .'. He spoke everything into existance.
