I have defraged it several times and it still needs to be defraged. What could be causing it to not defrag?

here... .the only problem with the second answer is this... that if there wasn't enough space it would tell you and make you answer the question to continue or not..... if you DO have to... then that's the problem........... if not.....

here is what you need to do.. as the first answer.. Run a scan disk.. i recommend this....open up My Computer (if you have Windows XP or 2000 or for some off reason your doing this on Windows 2000 or 2003 Server)..... right click on your Drive that your wanting to De frag.... go down to Properties....click it...... the move to the TOOL tab..... then under that tab you will see the ERROR-Checking tool.... click CHECK NOW....... then... a little window will Open... in that you will have 2 boxes that you can check....

(automatically fix file system errors and scan for and attempt recover of bad sectors)

Check them both.......... then click start.......

it will pop up a window telling you that you must restart the computer to do the scan your asking for.... click YES....... then......make sure all other windows are closed.... and restart your windows..... when it reboots it will automatically do a Scan.....
THEN...after that...... try a DE FRAG

if it de frags.... you just might have a HD going bad......

if it doesn't....... you have a HD Going bad....

ether way.......... i would suggest in thinking about the possibilities of getting a new HD

hope this helps

Run scandisk first. Usually it will ask you if you want to run this when you boot again. Say yes. This will get rid of bad sectors or repair them. Then you can defrag after that.

you got old invalid registry files and junk stuff that do not allow you rdefrag process to complete, I had the same problem. Run like a pc mechanic or registry wizard type program and you will see the difference.

good luck

You must have 15% free space, no matter what size the hard drive is. Otherwise you system doesn't have enough room to move and save files.
