Mine said moma at 7-8 months, but each one is different

They can make sounds and mimic if they try hard enough at 4 months. We coaxed my nephew into saying "boat" at 4 months by getting in his face and repeating it several times. He watched our faces very intently until he finally popped out with "boat." Of course, he had no idea what he was saying or how to repeat it at will. So it was only a fun little test. We had heard "experts" say that the "b" sound is easiest for infants to say which is why we picked the word "boat."

My niece said dada at 7 months and baba {byebye} less than 2 weeks later. Though she's yet to add mama and she's now 8 months. She doesn't quite understand the whole closing your mouth to talk.

It depends on the baby my baby said the four letter word for excrement at about 8 months...mom had to start cleaning up her mouth after that...
