I was talking to this old guy (real old, he said he was around when the Elvis appeared on the Ed Sullivian show and his grandparents thought elvis was nuts) and he said he didn't like Elvis at all. He said a bunch of his generation did, he said he was into the jazz and stuff and it made him and guys like him mad because 'along came elvis and he did a wiggle'. lol... He said Elvis was a really good person though... But, he said if you listen closely he only sings 'flat'... What exactly does he mean? And personally, I believe Elvis was like one of the greatest singers of all time.

"Flat" is a musical term. It technically means a half a step below a certain pitch. When people refer to that term when it comes to singing it just means they're below the correct pitch.

I think he was just showing his prejudice.

Elvis has one of those silky smooth tenor voices that never needs baffling. But there is no way he was flat. His pitch was impeckable.

I wish I could hit his high notes?

Pull out some vynal and listen to it. Elvis was a great singer.

He may have meant that he didn't have much range, which is kinda true, though it doesn't matter 'cause he rocked. :) The previous answer is more accurate about singing "flat", but I bet your old friend just didn't think he had much of a voice.
