Well, dear, it's possible to get pregnant on birth control. Just ask my fetus. But anyway, it's always a good idea to use a backup form of protection for a month after starting a new form of birth control while your body adjusts, because if your body isn't adjusted there's a higher chance of pregnancy, and you do sound like you're having some pregnancy symptoms. However, some women just react differently to different birth control, and I know a few girls who have had nausea, headaches, sore/swollen breasts, bloating, etc. from starting a new pill...once again, your body is adjusting to the hormones. You may know this, but the way the pill works is by releasing some pregnancy hormones so your body will think it's already pregnant, and therefore stop ovulating. So that's the explanation for pregnancy symptoms when on the pill but not pregnant.

But if you are...as far as when to test, you can use an early response test up to 5 days before your period is due (in your case, Friday might work). I recommend the clearblue easy digital test, since it works early and it just plain out says "Pregnant" or "Not Pregnant" so there's not all this interpretation and squinting at lines that may or may not be there. Keep in mind, though, that the further along you are, the better your chance of an accurate read. If it's negative before your period, wait till time for your period then test again (since you're on the pill, there's a chance you will still get some bleeding when you go on the inactive pills, pregnant or not). It's always best to test first thing in the morning since your urine is most concentrated. No, the hormones in the pill will not affect the outcome of your test, and no the pill will not hurt a baby if you are pregnant....it only stops you from ovulating; it doesn't kill a baby already made.

As far as your age and situation, I too am 18 and pregnant, been with my boyfriend 2 years. Sounds like we're much in the same boat. So let me tell you what's going on in my life, since I got pregnant. I'm 10 weeks, so I got pregnant around Christmas. I've had a lot of tiredness and nausea, so I've actually had to let both school and work slide, at least for this first trimester. I'm in a position where I can do this, since my boyfriend makes a lot more money than me and we already live together. What I'm doing is going back to college the next semester after the baby is born, but I'm not going back to work till I finish school...don't want to spread myself too thin. As for my family, I was sooooo worried that they'd react badly to an unmarried pregnant 18 year old, but they've been really supportive. I just explained to everyone that although I was being responsible and using birth control, it failed, and I had already made the decision to keep the baby. No one questioned me, and my boyfriend's mom, my mom, and my grandma are already buying me diapers and bibs. Hopefully your family will be just as supportive. or maybe you're not even pregnant. just go buy a mutilpack of that clearblue didgital test, test tomorrow and then again when your period is due. A positive is 99.5% accurate, and a negative is 95% accurate. Best of luck to you! Sorry I wrote so much, but I really knew where you were coming from.

it is possible to get preg. on birth control. you could be getting headaches and the sore breasts from the the lower does of bc. However, I would do a preg. test. It can show up positive 5 days before your period is due- however it can be inconclusive at this point as well. If you have a supportive relationship with your bf then that is the first step- telling parents is always hard- but you need to ask yourself, is it hard to tell your parents because you are preg. or because you are having sex? You can finish nursing school- you just may have to put it on hold for a little while. Or if that is not an option- how about adoption?
