It happens to all children. They are very insecure and it is manifested in dreams. It means nothing, just be supportive.

Some kids have vivid imaginations. Some kids pay more attention to things around them than we might realize. Many people, even adults are afraid of the dark & I think we are all afraid of the unknown.
Some kids, like adults see something or get something stuck in their heads & their brains don't shut off. In a kid's case it may manifest in a dream or nightmare, depending on what is inside their heads when they go to sleep.
Our boys have never suffered from nightmares, but I have a friend whose daughter had horrible nightmares from the age of 5 to the age of 8. She would wake up screaming, just dripping in sweat. When her mom or dad asked what the nightmare was about, it was always the same thing. The poor little thing was dreaming that her mom & dad were dead & she was all alone. They have never been able to figure out why she was so worried about this happening & they never were able to figure out where this thought came from.
I'm sorry for your son & you, it must be very hard on everyone. Have you spoken with his pediatrician? Has your son talked to you about his nightmares so that you can help him understand what they are & where they are coming from? (t.v., video games???????).
I wish you the best of luck helping your son ease any fears that may be manifesting themselves in his sleep.

Theres many things that can have psycological affect on a child. The list begins:

Physical abuse
Sexual abuse
Mental abuse
Television
Scarey movies
Video games
The dark
The unknown
Bullies at school or in the neighbourhood or in the family

The reason may not be apparent to you because it may not be visible to you or he may not understand it himself or he may not even want to share that information with you (children can go through life without discussing these issues with anyone becasue of fear)

If we cant work this thing out all we can do is be as supportive as we can be.

Instaling the best values and bliefs in your children is the best thing you can do for your child in the long run because this can determine what kind of person he grows up to be.
