I am a newbie web developer, have skills in PHP, AJAX and Javascript. To make my worth in computer world i want to create some web portal to be able to display to my clients. Can any one give me some innovative idea, on which theme should i work

You want to make something... not copy php-nuke or other 'crap'?
one of my pet themes is making something out of nothing.
I've done
1) slide shows of pictures without having a list of the pictures! by reading directories.
2) creating links where there were none, based on the availability of resources in a directory. simple text->webpage (with links)
and others, all with ajax and a little perl.
What can you do that the next guy can't?

As a fellow developer and programmer, I would have to say the easiest, most user friendly, with a large user base is wordpress. PHP-Nuke has a good user base also.
