the C^2's cancel out, which leaves D^7 /D^6

The rule for dividing exponents with the same base is to keep the base and subtract the exponents. (-c)^2 is c^2 divided by c^2 becomes 1. d^7 divided by d^6 is d^1 which is d.

because although -C and C are different when You square them they become the same so them cancell out and to divide exponets you subtract leaveing the letter on the larger side so 7-6 equals one
