Friendship by elizabeth jennings

Such love i cannot analyse;
it does not rest in lips or eyes,
neither kisses nor caress,
partly i know, its gentleness

And understand in one word
Or in a brief letters, It's preserved
By trust and respect and awe.
These words i 'm feeling for.

Two People, yes two lasting friends.
The giving comes, the taking ends,
There is no measure for such things
For this all nature slows and sings

First Para : The poet says that her love cannot be quantified or described by the physical characteristics of the lips or eyes nor by physical actions of kisses or carasses.

But she knows its love by the gentleness of the love.

Second & Third Para : It cannot be measured or described by words , giving to the other matters more than taking from the other , such friendship is beautiful and makes the heart & the whole world sing along.

What a beautiful poem!
"such love i cannot analyse; it does not rest in lips or eyes," -- the love between friends can't be analyzed and is not spoken (lips) or seen (eyes)
"partly i know, its gentleness" -- the part i know about friendship is its gentleness
"and understand in one word" -- even if one word is exchanged between friends, it can be understood
"or in a brief letter, it's preserved By trust and respect and awe" -- the words written in letters are preserved not necessarily by ink & paper, but by trust, respect & awe between friends
"two people, yes two lasting friends. The giving comes, the taking ends," -- Friends are givers, not takers
"there is no measure for such things" -- Nothing can measure friendship
"For this all nature slows and sings" -- Nature/time slows down & nature/ the world rejoices in friendship

it's rubbish! that's what i said to my language arts teacher, SERIOUSLY! these old boring ppl wanna be rich and make these stupid 'poems' that are confusing because they mean nothing and are only written to make the 'poets' make themselves sound important. duh. it drives me nuts sometimes...like the modern art these days. some of the stuff is just plain CRAP. i mean i went to an art museum once, looked at the modern art, and there was one called 'instructor' and it was a blank white painting i was like 'WTH!!!!'
