my mom said it can trip a breaker

In older homes on the same circuit it can trip the breaker as your mom said. You should never doubt your Mother.

If they are plugged into the same outlet, or the outlets are on the same circuit, it may trip the breaker or blow the fuse(with older wiring). It just depends on the size of the circuit and how much stuff is drawing off it at one time. As long as the wiring is good, there won't be any safety concerns, just the nuisance of having to reset the breaker.

If that does not trip the circuit breaker there is no problem, they are on separate circuits. If the breaker trips they are on the same circuit and they should not be used at the same time.

It should work O.K. but, if not, use it at different times. All it's going to do is trip the breaker, that's what it's suppose to do.

Only on the same circuit breaker it may blow a fuse!
