I kinda think your between a rock and a hard spot. You maybe could take her to court for this, but...just getting a lawyer will suck you dry of any money you might have and even if by chance you won, sometimes you never see a dime of the money you get awarded. If your dealing with someone that has nothing, you know the old saying, "you can't get blood out of a turnip.
Your dealing with Bipolar and a crazy family so everyone that knows them probally let anything they say...go in one ear and out the other. People that personally know you should know better and if they don't, throw it to the wind. A few months from now they will be on to someone or something different.
On the other hand, maybe just getting an attorney to write them a letter with the threat of a lawsuit will shut them up. That shouldn't cost you to much and might be worth it.
Good luck.

I don't think you would be able to get one unless she was now threatening you. As far as the defamation of character, if she really has Bipolar, there isn't much that can be done. And how do you prove it? Have you lost work, or friends or money because of what she said?

Yes get a restraining order. As far as suing for slander, you can do that but be aware most attorneys charge at least 5k up front for that type of case.

It depends on the extent of who she is telling. If she's calling your friends up and telling them, or talking to people about it that she would otherwise not talk to then I would say contact a lawyer and find out what your options are.

Good luck

File a case of defamation because your character is being blemished in the eyes of the people.

I would consider the source and move on...

I wouldn't bother with all that as it is only going to give them the attention that they are seeking.
