just google it. electric can openers work like the hand crank ones, except they use a motor in lieu of a hand.

Its an electric motor and a few gears to change the high RPM + low torque of the motor to a low rpm and high torque for cutting the can lid off.

A very simple gear system. Usually just 2 stage reduction. tiny gear on the motor, then a "duplex gear" with a large wheel and a small one locked together, the large one driven by the motor's gear. Then the small one drives another large one which drives the piece that locks onto the can rim and turns the can.
