The really franchised a kicker. Wow.

Jenn R- Franchising a player is optional. You dont have to designate a franchise player if you dont want to. They could have just resigned him and let that be that. It would have been cheaper than franchising him. The only way I would franchise a kicker is if he refused to resign.

Regardless of what the dude above me thinks, it actually is a great move! The reason why they kept him is because of his value. Kicker's are NOT a dime a dozen. You can ask any Patriots fan what it's like to go from Adam Vinatieri to Stephen Gotskowski. Not to take anything away from Gotskowski, but he certainly isn't any Adam Vinatieri.

Josh Brown, for the money he was asking was totally worth the pick up because the rest of the people that are on the market...well aren't. Besides, who would they make as their franchise if they didn't franchise him? Jordan Babineaux? Bobby Engram? D.J. Hackett? Jerramy Stevens? The only other person that they should have considered is Sean Locklear, but with his recent legal issuses (beating his wife/girlfriend in public), I seriously doubt that Paul Allen would have throught twice.

Besides, Josh Brown has kicked and quite effectively for that matter. He's a top 10 kicker with 4 game winning goals. He's been to the Super Bowl and if the bears wouldn't have been able to get downfield this year - would have been in the NFC Championship Game. It's that simple.

Stupid move. Kickers are a dime a dozen. Besides, they could have brought in Mike Vanderjagt if they lost Brown.
