i've only got about 5 more working days left at my current job; I am scheduled to start my new job this monday. Tonight, my manager threatened me- but later apologized. Here's what happened: he was pulling cash from my drawer while i completed a transaction. After the customer stepped away, he said that i forgot to ask for an additional item- which we're required to do. I started to explain, but didn't have the chance. He said- in a mean voice- "I know you only have a few days left with us, but DONT SCREW US! This is not a threat, but we can make sure you don't find another job in MN if you don't perform your job properly." Like I said, he later apologized and practically begged me not to quit, but what if he was just saying all that to keep me from going to the store manager? I don't know what to do! I want to quit just on principle, but I feel bad about possibly doing that....

Quit before it gets worst. However explain that you are tense about staying with circumstances the way they are.
Leave on good terms. Yours !

He crossed the line. The term is "Defamation Related to Termination".

It is absolutely WRONG for an employer or manager to threaten an employee in such a way, and the fact that he came back and apologized is indicative that he knew he screwed up. You already have the other job. There is no reason why you need to stay at the old one. And he probably wasn't worried about you going to the "store manager" as much he was about the district manager hearing about it from your lawyer! He was worried about being fired.

My advice is, just forget going back there, unless you want to for some reason. There is nothing they can do to you, so long as you haven't stolen or committed other crimes against them. From what you said, I sincerely doubt you have done that!

As a manager. I would say sit it thru your last two weeks. It was wrong for him to say that, you should tell him in private that you didn't appreciate what he said, but do not quit. Quitting is bad any way that you look at it. Especially if this job that you are starting at doesn't end up working out. If you quit on a good note(after your 2 weeks) then there is that possibility that they would re-hire you.

I hope it helped!

Finish off your last few days. Be good, and let him know what a valuable employee is walking away because you won't put up with this ****.

I presume that this guy has been difficult, and is the reason why you're leaving. Tell big boss why your going, too.

But you still work there, and do a good job while you remain.

Dude, go straight to the store manager and talk to them about the guy. Do it for all your fellow coworkers. He pretty much lied about making sure you can't find a job because its illegal to say anything besides yes or no to the question would you hire this person again.

I would tender my immediate resignation and give it to the store manager explaining that under the current situation-you cannot continue...if money "got lost" who would get the looks??
After your manager harassed you-it put you in downward position--anything that goes wrong--the blame is yours..
Quit now by resigning...

I would leave now. Considering you have another job to go to there is no need to worry about not finding another job
