I say not the U.S.

I say where is the U.N.?

People are so quick to criticize the U.S. for not stepping in to help Africa.

The U.N. are the "Peacekeepers", Where are they?

Screw oil, we are tied up in Iraq, and Africa needs help..

Some peacekeepers...

There does not have to be so much suffering there or anywhere in the world. That is fact. There is more than enough to go around for everyone. There is only nonsense in any notion that this world is overpopulated or that there isn't enough food or that there are not enough jobs and so on. Those notions are all wrong and meant to enslave us and our souls. When I was younger, I reached a point where I sorta understood it all as simply colossal mismanagement, that, if we joined Peace Corps and got involved and studied biology to help with the Green Revolution that hunger and poverty would be reduced. So, I learned how to farm and live wisely off the land. Then, I came to see it as colossal ignorance, that, if we could only educate people, there would no longer be such needless suffering. So, I learned to teach. Then, during the pre-cocktail AIDS crisis, I saw it as a tsunami, a time to pitch in and just help, not talk. So, I became a nurse. Today, I know it is not mismanagement or ignorance or a wave too big too handle. It's about plunder and exploitation. There are evil men in the world who would let millions of human beings starve and suffer and die needlessly for the plunder of it. There is no good future for any of us if what we do to get there separates ourselves from what makes us human. Without profound and good honor, it's all for naught. As for the U.S. or the U.N., those entities do not really exist. Only humans exist. Oh, they may sit all together in Congress or in the General Assembly. But, they are individuals. Conscience hails from the individual. Accountability hails from the individual. Until people have the guts to be individuals again . . . DECENT individuals true to their own consciences . . . they will be ineffective at bringing about positive change.

this one is directed to boston mark.. you're an a$$hole. and the UN is not without dues, the US owes it 1.3billion. and you would find the UN to be more effective if the same nation didn't veto over and over again... and your racial comments are telling.

and to everyone else, the UN didn't want the iraq invasion in the first place, so don't complain that now the UN isn't picking up the pieces (see "we are tied up in Iraq, and Africa needs help..). the other member states are countries that have suffered war firsthand, not just dealt it out, they've had to rebuild over and over, they truly understand the horrors. the un have had a solid show in africa, but even they are smart enough to know when to pull out troops, no point getting more people killed when the conditions are just not right to be of help. At any rate, locally engaged groups supported by UN funding are a massive presence and shown to be the only effective way of helping, as opposed to sending out foreigners who don't understand the local conditions, customs or language.

i totally agree, it seems some countries are afraid of making a situation worse. and that does happen before things get better. look at any strong nation and they were once at turmoil and usually someone stepped in and helped them get direction.the u.s. cannot fight everyone, and it seems there are just some major conflicts america is tied down with right now. i do feel sorry for all the victims in africa and wish some country would step up and not worry about how they will be perceived by the international community and stand for something right..

Look what happened in Rwanda. To this day I have never heard of a protest in the Western world condemning Western leaders for doing nothing. I'm afraid we in the Western world like to pretend we care but when it comes to real sacrifices (money & soldiers) we don't. Personally I don't blame the US & UK either they're the only ones who might consider helping in say Zimbabwe. Where are China, Japan or the EU?

The UN is corrupt.

Remember the oil for food program. The head guys stole the money and have not been punished.

the UN has to get the troops from somewhere... the U.S. doesn't want to give any to darfur... no one else seems to either...

but actually, I heard the AU (African Union) may step in and do something... but I'm not sure how far along that is...or how good of a job the AU would do... but maybe it would be better than nothing?

1) No money to be made in Africa.
2) We've shelled out how many millions of dollars to that sh*thole over the years and what results have we seen for it?

Because the U.S. is afraid of those people,Bush especially. The Iraqis are slightly built people of color (Yes, many have brown skin) But Africa. That is a far different story......I believe we all know what it is. If we don't, we should.

Why should we? They've got nothing worth saving. As much as others would like us to be, we're not the world's police force.
