As we all know the final which saw Williams abosolutely smash the living daylights out of Maria Sharapova was a complete dud. I personally think the quarter final match between Williams and world number 17, Israel's Shahar Peer, was the match of the whole slam on the ladies side, what do you think????

her game against Peer was much better, but Serena also got stronger during the tournament.
I would have preferred to see her play Clijsters in the final, as it was her last Aussie Open.

I believe that if Justine Henin was in the tournament that she wouls have been in the finals, as a way of redeming herself from the previous year. When Justine and Serena meet we all know that its going to be good. As for meeting Serena has a 5-3 record against Justine but they havent played each other since the 2003 Wimbledon Semifinals so to go 3.5-4 years without meeting one another we would see a great match. I really wish that these two would meet at either the Australian open or the U.S. Open so that they are playing on a surface taht both are ok with. The reason i dont say clay or grass is cause Justine would win on clay easily and Serena is a great grass court player.

Also this reminds me of when Justine killed Mary Pearce in the 05 french finals so history has shown us that one woman could just kill another

I would have preferred to have seen Serena play Jennifer Capriati in the final, But, Since Jennifer was not in the tournament, I would Pick Kim Clijsters instead since she is a better matchup , physically for Serena than the tall and slim Sharapova, who just got overpowered by Serena.

Clisters because she is a good counter-puncher or Mauresmo because she comes to the net. I agree about the Petrova match.

Note: to the media try as you like Sharapova will never look as good as Kournikova.

Eitherway, great for Serena.

i agree with you. Peer. that game looked more like a championship than the serena-maria final.

it would be good to finally see a little-known player beat a seeded player.

:)

yeah that semi was awesome! as for the final... i know she's pregnant, but had she not decided to retire it would have been nice to see lindsay davenport in there with serena. im gonna miss linds.... she was a great player.

but yeah... glad serena won the AO but sharapova could have given her a run for her money. sad to see that it didnt happen though. go serena!

Kim Clisjters is my favorite player, so I really wanted her toreach the final and win it. After all, it was her last one!
