Your "park" switch is burned out. It's the gadget that returns the wipers to their park position after the power has been truned off. You can probably replace it yourself. Have the car parts clerk pull up a diagram or google it to see where the thing is located on your car.

I have a grand-am basically the same car just yours is a bit bigger and sportier..and i've had the same problem..it's the wiper position sensor and it's located in a black box under the hood..The wippers have gone back to default mode wich means when ever you shut them off they will stay in that position..change that sensor and that should be the end of the problem..i live in canada and it cost me only 17 dollars to change it from canadian tire..or you can find a used on in a scrap yard good luck and remember the rule of thumb when it comes to the motor of parts like that in a car they either work or they don't ..so if they work but no re-act the same chance are it's allwasy going to be a switch or sensor..

The wiper moter might be bad or something might be stuck inside one of the wipers that is causing it to get stuck.. Hose down the wiper and the windshield realy good. If that does not work, go to your local auto zone. They will show you where your wiper motor is. Depending on your vehicle, they could be easy to replace.

The wiper may be miswired slightly.
Its also possible that the return circuit burned out.
Generally... I'd say don't worry about it, just manyally bump the wiper switch to get them where you want them when not neeing to use the wipers.
If they RETURN to the unwanted position, then the gears have partially stripped and the wipers need service.

Simple fix, either motor or gear, first guy is closest to right.
Ask your husband though.....why didn't he put the wiper arms up in the air prior to the ice storm? for is it not his job to take care of the cars? (just so you have some ammo back at him) and or at least inform you on what to do to the car?

Try this....before shutting off your car. turn the wipers off first. If they do NOT go back into the cradle position. Then turn them back on and wait for them to go back down..then turn off your wiper blades...then turn off your car. Now if they Just don't work Totally at all. It could be something more serious.

The drive gears on those wipers are made of plastic,,I'm pretty certain,,,i have also stripped the gears on wipers due to icing up.
So i think the drive gear has a few stripped teeth.

When you have this problem you can COMPENSATE BY turning off your engine at exactly the right time.
