i dream and then wake up. i start to get ready for school and poof, i forget what it was and it bothers me for the rest of the day because i think dreams mean something. How do you remember dreams and how do you make sense of them?

You can buy something to help. It's a sort of pair of sunglasses that you wear when you sleep. They have motion sensors in them and when you dream your eyes move back and forth. When this happens the glasses flash a red light into your eyes and if in your dream you were say walking down the street, you'd see red lights flashing and you'd know you were dreaming and then it becomes lucid and you can controll it. That also helps to remember it.
If you want to make sense of them, you should know that the only dreams that really mean something are recurring dreams. And if you want to figure them out you don't need books, just think back to the major concerns in your life at the times you've had the dream. If you resolve the problem consciously the dream will stop and then you know for sure that's what it was about.
Example:
I had a guy come to me with a dream. He was upset by it and thought he was crazy. It was that he was driving a transport down the road and he saw a deer and tried to stop but hit the deer. When he got out to look at the damage he looked down toward the deer but now it was his mother. When he saw it he started to laugh, then woke up. He was very concerned. Turns out after talking the dream had started 3 months ago and at the same time his elderly mother had come to live with him and it was driving him crazy. I recommended he get her a different apt and he did and the dream stopped. He successfully made sense of the dream and you can too, just think about it in relation to your daily life and make those kinds of connections.

Instead of getting ready for school right away. Take a few minutes to write down a short summary of your dreams that night. The reason you can only remember your dreams for a short period of time is because your unconscious mind is still sort of awake. Ha if that makes any sense. Eventually, as time passes, you are completely conscious, and you lose contact with your unconscious mind. Therefore the dreams you had, seem to be forgotten. It happens to everybody. So write them down right after you wake up! Then you can imprint the memory into your conscious mind.

There are several ways to make sense of your dreams depending on your beliefs. Some people believe that objects or moods in dreams act as symbols each with there own meaning in relation to your life. Other people believe that dreams pretty much randomly created depending on what your unconscious mind picks up throughout the day. Thats really all I have to say on it.

From what I heard from many psychology sources is that dreams are pretty much for the most part chaotic and really don't have much if any "meaning" to them.
As far as remembering dreams, the best idea I've heard is to keep pen/pencil and paper near your bed so that when you wake up, you'll be ready to write the dream down while it's still somewhat fresh in your mind.
I once heard somewhere that the author of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hide" wrote the novel in 3 days because he had the story in dream and wanted to get it written down before he forgot too much of it.

I think sometimes they mean something and sometimes they don't. Most of all I notice that dreams hint about what is going on in your subconcious mind, that your conscious mind hasn't yet put together. If you want to understand and notice the messages easier, try to write it down, or tell someone about it as soon as you wake up. If you are bad at wrinting things down consistantly, then just pretend like you are telling someone in your mind about the dream, and u usually will remember the important details!
Once you have remembered key things in your dream, such as:walking;winter;dog;water(and whether or not it was clear or murky, rough or calm); you can start looking the symbols up in a dream dictionary. You'll find the one that suits u best!
If u remember one, post it here, and I'll do my best to interpret it for you!

That will happen a lot, you'll forget them, and some you will remember forever....don't worry about the ones you can't remember, even if you know that dream was really meaningful...I suppose the dreams that you are meant to remember are those that you do!

A good rule of thumb, if interested...Keep pen and paper by your bed, write them down as soon as you wake up (any time of night)

Dreams dont mean anything. Nothing at all! They are only the product of what your mind does while your body is asleep.

For a good night sleep and a day free from the worry of 'what the hell was that dream all about?', take 300 mg of Vitamin B1 and 1000mg of Calcium (or a glass of warm milk) about an hour before bed. That'll sort it out.

If you cant take supplements then make sure you eat green leafy vegetables (spinach, lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, etc) and drink plenty of milk (soy or dairy).

If you want to remember the dream you just woke from, you have to think about it and write it down within 5 minutes. Leave a blank line between each line you fill in.
When looking it over later, that blank line can be used to fill in details.
I wouldn't bother writing it down unless I liked it or it seemed very interesting.
It can be fun. Some of your friends might like hearing about your cool dreams.

Keeping a dream journal (writing a dream down right after you have it) can help you remember key parts.

Making sense of them is a different matter entirely...
