In terms of human suffering it was probably the First World War in 1914 to 1918 (for the Americans 1916 to 1918, at that period they were usually late).
More than 10 million soldiers died, millions more wounded, revolution in Russia, the growth of the Nazi Party, death of 50 million from the Spanish Influenze epidemic which swept the weakened countries after the war.
The effects of this war are still shaping society to this day.

Well, in my opinion, the most dangerous was WW2. But if you are from the U.S., we lost more people during the Civil War (U.S.A vs. C.S.A.) than in any other war.
