Click on Start, choose Run, type in notepad and hit ok, it will appear. Normally notepad is located under Accessories, near the bottom, you also have Wordpad. You can download this free office suite called Open Office, it has a type of Word, Powerpoint, and Excel.

Try to run notepad in start->run
If that file is there and link is missing, you will get notepad.
If still you didnt got, then you have to use your windows XP cd.
Using CD, you can install some features and notepad also.
After inserting CD, there will be an option to add/remove programs ( i didint remembered clearly)
