This really is a ridiculous question. Similar to - Why are stupid people dumb?

I could accept a question such as, why do strangers scare us. But fear? Fear is, by necessity, something to avoid. To be scared is to be fearful.

On the other hand, FDR said "all we have to fear is fear itself." Courage is a mental (and/or moral) state meant to counter fear. Certainly, it can be important to be able to function despite feeling fearful. And it does make some people "excited" and perhaps more focused than typical, since what causes us to have fear is usually something that threatens our well being. Ignoring a threat can kill you.

BTW - torture CAN hurt you - physically and spiritually/mentally and even if you are spiritually strong. Unless you've been tortured you shouldn't make assumptions about it.

As far as ending up in the same place, I might guess by this you mean - dead? And of course such things can hurt you. Torture hurts, and dieing often hurts - unless you're very lucky(?)

And finally, no you aren't always judged by the actions you take, more than those taken against you. Many/most people judge others by how those others are treated - by other people. That is enough for many people. If some people treat you badly then you MUST deserve it. Being led by example is what it's called.

Now perhaps you mean "defined" in a different way. Would "finally judged" be more what you mean?

Because in order to survive emotionally and psychologically, we have to have something which will scare the living **** out of us.

In other ways, fear is usually generated by our own overwhelming ignorance of the world around us--so we are always perpetually fearing something we either don't understand, or may never will.

Simply because we are set in our own little ways.

But if you're talking on a spiritual level, I can't really give you that answer--even though I may know it already.

My point on that aspect, is that I can't escape what will come and nothing I do now will change it. So why fight it? I'll live my life how I want to--thankyouverymuch. :0)

Fear doesn't scare people. Worry does. Fear simply guides us into appropriate action in dangerous situations.

When we are in a dangerous situation our body goes into fight or flight mode, and our intuition will guide us into the best action and course. Fear is not so much an emotion as a physical stimulator of action.

Worry is the emotion and worry is rather pointless. it may point us in the direction of a problem that we need to take care of, but beyond that, we must remember that if we are worried about something, than it hasn't happened yet.

Fear scares because it triggers the base primitive instincts of the brain. The first intuitive reaction of most baby animals to a fright is to freeze (movement attracts a predator). The next instict is to hide or run, but as that begins to cut in, the "freeze" of the first impedes immediate response of the muscles. That heightens fear. Meanwhile fear closes down the later developed reasoning processes. So the sense of vulnerability escalate - more fear. All you say is correct - but applying logic in a suddenly dangerous situation requires a great deal of preliminary training. We are animals before we are thinking beings. Just look at the world! Gosh knows why people enjoy fear, flocking to horror movies, etc - perhaps they're adrenaline junkies.

Fear for horror movies.. Sure they scared me when i was a kid.
Now days i don't bother watching them..

But if your talking fear in to-days society.
Well i think its healthy. Fear can save your life,
What ever it is that is scaring you or causing you fear is pretty much a warning single for you staying alive or unhurt.
We pick up on the fact we are worried, scared and if we have enough brains we take actions to keep ourselves out of danger.

I hate spiders, wrists (touching wrists, seeing people shooting up on tv etc) - it makes me cringe so badly! I'm scared at the thought of losing my mum. She's only 47 but my Granny died last year and although I have never felt pain like that before (still struggling!) I cannot begin to imagine what it must feel like to loose your mum! I've been having scary dreams about Voldemort and destroying horcruxes lately - sad for a 21 year old I know!!!

First of all, fear only scares an idiot as that would be self-causing and somehow create infinite fear. Second of all, most fears having nothing to do with a rational risk of pain or death. Third of all, if people are afraid of death rationally it is because they want to live more, experience more, and maybe be with the people they love or who love them, etc.

As long as there is even one desire yet to be fulfilled and there is uncertainty, we would be scared of messing up..... fear is caused by the desires coupled with the ever present uncertainties. That is the root cause for fear.

where you end up doesn't have anything to do with it...pain is still pain...the only way you would have no fear or emotion or pain is if you are a sociopath and just totally emotionless.
