All of these are worhty reads, and if I had to choose one, I would recommend Things Fall Apart... an interesting look into another culture and worldview.

The Return of The Native.
I Like Thomas Hardy Novels
and Great Expectations is also good.
These are great novels, don't see many like this around anymore.

things fall apart is good, but a bit weird. it's written pretty straightforward but it doesn't really feel like a book and you may wonder about the point of achebe's way of unraveling the story [i've only read it like once and i didn't get why he told it the way he did]. dunno if i should give away more on that.

animal farm is also good, but pretty bleak and depressing. you can count on almost every story about russia to be depressing >>;;;

i haven't gotten around to getting through dickens but i like it alright.

Animal Farm is amazing.

Great Expectations is my second choice.
